Velvet Lenae- In front of the lens!
What started as a joke, turned into reality. This was Corey’s (Corey Wendell Photography) chance to take advantage of an opportunity from this Facebook joke of doing a beauty shoot w/me. He’d been asking to shoot me for quite some time now. I finally gave in and agreed to do a beauty shoot. What did I get myself into?
In the month of April 2014, I went to Cory Nellon’s studio (Da Playhouse Studio) and met with Corey W and Yolanda (ID Beauti Makeup Artistry), who was doing my makeup. You see, this was a unique experience for me. Not only was I not a fan of being in front of the camera, but I also never had a professional makeover. Not sure why, but I’ve always ran away from makeup.
There was no turning back now. The fun had begun. I could not stop laughing. Sorry Yolanda for giving you such a hard time with my non stop laughter, while you applied my makeup. I think it was the nervousness of everything that was getting to me. After getting through all of the laughing, Corey captured my top image from each look Yolanda created.
The Experience- A Note to my Clients
As much as I reject being in front of the camera, I’m glad that I had the experience. I understand how you all feel when preparing for a photo shoot. I understand being nervous. I understand being self conscious. I understand freezing up and not knowing what to do. I understand having to let go of control (hardest part for me). At the end of it all, I finally understand giving my photographer complete trust, resulting in these beautiful images!

It’s definitely weird when I look at these images. It doesn’t even seem like I’m looking at myself. This was an amazing experience and I’m glad that I had the opportunity to have a relate-able client experience.

I loved Chantrelle’s look from first sight. I’ve been interested in a project including an androgynous look for a little while now and when I saw Chantrelle, I thought she would be the perfect fit. I was right because she did an amazing job and she completely embodied the true definition of Androgyny.

Beauty Transformations
We’ve added something new and fun to our services. Beauty transformations involve taking a person that’s not a model and transforming her by giving her a makeover and styling hair. Our first beauty transformation was w/Angela. Timothy Keys of Keys to Great Hair styled hair and gave her a makeover. You can see the before and after below.
Ladies if you’re looking to a have fabulous looking picture, which includes being pampered, this is the service for you. It may also reveal a look that you could never imagine seeing on yourself. Angela is not a model, yet we had the privilege of providing her with star-like images…
